Father’s Day is a great reason to celebrate all the fathers and father figures in your life. It’s also a great excuse to check out the kind of movie dads tend to enjoy. Namely, dumb comedies with plenty of jokes that will tickle their fancy.

We’ve pulled together a list of five comedies available on Netflix (which has plenty of great comedies) that will be perfect for Father’s Day viewing (trust us, dad will love these).

Hit Man (2024)

Richard Linklater can make every kind of movie, and with Hit Man, he’s made something that dads of all generations will love. The film stars Glen Powell as a mild-mannered philosophy professor who moonlights for the New Orleans Police Department by posing as a hit man. When he falls for one of the people he’s supposed to be arresting, though, things get complicated.

Thanks to some incredible chemistry between Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, as well as a razor-sharp, hilarious script, Hit Man is both a great romance and one of the funniest movies of the year. You’ll be delighted by it from start to finish.

You can watch Hit Man on Netflix.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2021)

The Mitchells vs. The Machines | Official Trailer | Netflix

If you’re looking for a movie that’s actually about fatherhood, you can’t do much better than The Mitchells vs. The Machines. The film tells the story of a family on a road trip who find themselves humanity’s only hope following a robot apocalypse. The movie’s inventive animation style ensures that it will be compelling to people of all ages.

At its core, though, the movie is about the relationship between a dad and his daughter as they try to better understand one another. If you’re a dad trying to better connect with your kids, then this movie is almost guaranteed to make you laugh — and then cry.

You can watch The Mitchells vs. The Machines on Netflix.

Burn After Reading (2008)

Burn After Reading Official Trailer #1 – Brad Pitt Movie (2008) HD

One of the silliest movies in the Coen brothers’ filmography, Burn After Reading tells the convoluted story of two dim gym employees who find themselves in possession of highly classified CIA materials. Thanks to brilliant comedic turns from Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand, the movie feels ludicrous from the second it starts — and it only gets crazier from there.

Burn After Reading is a brilliant send-up of government bureaucracy, and an important reminder that people with important titles aren’t necessarily better or smarter than your average gym employee. It’s also one of the funniest movies ever made.

You can watch Burn After Reading on Netflix.

Knocked Up (2007)

A story of arrested development, Knocked Up follows a man who finds his life turned upside down after a one-night stand results in a pregnancy. Directed by Judd Apatow, Knocked Up is really the story of a man finally discovering that he has to grow up, and also realizing that growing up is not as bad as he might have assumed.

More importantly, though, the movie is really funny, and features Apatow’s regular roster of comedic geniuses. In addition to Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl in the starring roles, the movie features Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, and Jason Segel in standout supporting roles.

You can watch Knocked Up on Netflix.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

One of the funniest movies ever made, and one your dad has probably been quoting since you were far too young to understand what he was talking about, Monty Python and the Holy Grail tells the story of King Arthur’s quest for the Holy Grail without much evident interest in that story.

Instead, the film is mostly focused on cramming as many bits into every scene as it can, and even on occasion highlighting the film’s absurdly low budget. In spite of its obviously tiny budget, though, Holy Grail stands the test of time, and is perfect for watching on Father’s Day or any day of the year.

You can watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Netflix.
