NASA has added 3I/Atlas to the International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) which comprises of world-wide astronomers and space agencies and have described the comet as a possible “planetary threat” to Earth.

On 1 July 3I/Atlas was first spotted and it has raised many red flags as it has been described as showing strange behaviour which has been seen spraying particles towards the Sun instead of the jet particles moving away from it.

This is called “anti-tail” which is releasing a metal composite which has never been seen before. The interstellar object is also releasing nickel and no iron, this is not typical for comets, also nickel tetracarbonyl has been identified, this has only ever been made in laboratories.

Astrophysicist Professor Avi Loeb told the New York Post, “The alloy has previously been witnessed only in human manufacturing.”

3I/Atlas has a strange acceleration with a non-standard flight path, this suggest it is more than a giant piece of rock.

Scientists who are tracking the interstellar object have been left perplexed as it seems to have reversed “thrust” and it is now pointing opposite from the sun.

Leak suggest 31/Atlas is no comet and has an ‘engine like sound’

‘Alien mothership’ appears to have reversed ‘thrust’ near to the sun leaving scientists perplexed

The object which astrophysicist Dr Avi Loeb has called an “alien mothership” was heading towards the sun, it is now pointing away from it.

Dr Loeb said, “It could indicate that it was an alien probe sent to do recon on Earth.”

IAWN will start a “comet campaign” from 27 November to 27 January 2026 to nail down their detection methods and will track 3I/Atlas to defend Earth.

IAWN said, “To prepare for the campaign, we will hold a workshop on techniques to correctly measure comet astrometry.”

A space enthusiast wrote on X, “So, this is what’s happening, for the first time in history, an interstellar object namely 3I/ATLAS has been formally enrolled in a planetary defense–level observation campaign.”

The interstellar object is travelling at the speed of 130,000mph which “could be alien” and Dr Loeb warned it “may come to save us or destroy us.”

Scientists are not ruling out any hypothesis as such objects can hide technological signals, they say.

Dr Loeb said on his blog post, “If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system.

“In that case, the Oberth maneuver might apply to the mini-probes it releases at perihelion towards Solar system planets.”
