Samsung’s next budget Galaxy-A phone appears in a leak with a tiring look

Hours after the renders of the Galaxy A57 series surfaced on the internet, renders of the Galaxy A37 are here as well. They’re yet another example of how obvious and boring Samsung’s recent smartphones have become, especially in design.

It doesn’t take more than a glance to figure out that the purported Galaxy A37 looks awfully similar to the current-generation Galaxy A36 5G.

Practically indistinguishable from the Galaxy A36 5G

The key design elements, including the centrally located cutout for the front camera, the relatively thicker bezels on the sides (compared to the Galaxy A57), and the broad chin at the bottom, are all too familiar.

Even the back panel doesn’t have any surprises. It houses the vertically stacked triple camera setup we’ve already seen on the Galaxy A36 5G, along with the integrated flash module, and an otherwise clean back with the company’s branding at the bottom.

The placement of the power button and volume rockers on a slightly raised platform (what the company calls the “Key Island”) on the right frame is visually identical to the current model.

If that’s not enough, the leaked renders (via Android Headlines) showcase the phone in its lavender color, which, yet again, looks similar to the “Awesome Lavender” finish on the A36.

A fully flat design that plays it safe

The display, the side frame, and the back panel are entirely flat on the upcoming Galaxy A37, so don’t expect any curved screen or edges. In a nutshell, the upcoming Galaxy A series handset should look and feel exactly the same as the current model.

The only noticeable change could be a reduction in the smartphone’s thickness; the Galaxy A37 could be thinner and possibly lighter than the Galaxy A36. However, that remains a conjecture at the moment.

Given that there are no major specification upgrades on the cards for the handset, it is beyond me why Samsung is sticking with the same design language for two consecutive years, especially in a segment that offers plenty of playful designs.

Rumors suggest an early-February launch for the Galaxy A37 5G, with boring specifications no less.

You could get the same 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, the Exynos 1480 SoC paired with up to 256GB of storage, a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, a 5,000 mAh battery, and seven years of software updates from Samsung.
