Google just gave Pixel Tablet owners a reason to hold onto their tablets for a little longer. The company has quietly extended software support for the tablet, and it will now receive two additional years of Android OS upgrades.
When the Pixel Tablet launched back in 2023, Google promised three years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the premium tablet. Later that year, the company updated its software update commitment with the launch of the Pixel 8 series, offering seven years of Android OS and security updates for the flagship phones.
The following year, Google extended support for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, promising five years of OS and security updates instead of the previous three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. The Pixel Tablet is next in line to receive the same treatment, and the news comes at the perfect time, as OS updates for the tablet were previously set to end in June 2026.
Two more years of Android OS updates are coming
According to 9to5Google, the support page for the Pixel Tablet has now been updated to reflect the new five-year support window for both OS and security updates. It states, “The Pixel Tablet runs Android OS. This device will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US. This includes 5 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops.”
This means the Pixel Tablet will now receive guaranteed OS upgrades until June 2028, bringing it in line with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, as well as the original Pixel Fold. While that still falls short of Google’s seven-year update promise for Pixel 8 and newer devices, the extended support window is a welcome move. It gives existing Pixel Tablet users more incentive to continue using their devices and shows that Google’s long-term software support commitment is not limited to its newest hardware.
