Sir Ed Davey has urged Sir Keir Starmer to sue Donald Trump for $100 billion, claiming the former US President has “damaged our country”.

Speaking at the Scottish Liberal Democrat conference in Edinburgh, the Kingston & Surbiton MP launched a blistering attack on Donald Trump — branding him “the most dangerous, damaging US President of modern times”.

“My advice to Keir Starmer is to sue Donald Trump for $100billion for the damage he’s caused to Scotland and our country. It’s the only language he understands.”

“Sir Ed’s intervention came hours after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the majority of the Trump administration’s import tariffs, including reciprocal duties, in a 6–3 decision, marking a significant shift in US trade policy.”

But within hours, Trump signalled he would sign a new executive order imposing a fresh 10 per cent global tariff — reigniting trade tensions.

Sir Ed hailed the ruling as “brilliant” and accused Trump of behaving like a “bully”.

“You can’t kowtow to a bully,” he declared.

The Lib Dem leader renewed pressure on Keir Starmer, insisting the Prime Minister’s approach to Washington is wrong and claiming he has not “achieved anything” in trade talks.

Instead, Davey urged closer ties with European allies and praised Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for “standing up” to Trump.

“The UK Prime Minister should not yield to a bully.”

A UK Government spokesman said officials would work with the White House to assess the impact of the ruling, stressing that Britain “enjoys the lowest reciprocal tariffs globally” and expects its “privileged trading position” with the US to continue.

Businesses were assured they would receive support as further details emerge.
