Looks like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is getting a remake after all

Ubisoft has finally acknowledged what many Assassin’s Creed fans suspected all along: a remake of the iconic Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is indeed in development. After years of leaks and speculation, the company has teased the project under the title Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, subtly confirming the long-running rumors in a new franchise update blog post.

Get ready to become a pirate once again

Rather than outright announcing the remake, Ubisoft opted for a playful tease. In the blog post, Assassin’s Creed franchise head Jean Guesdon referenced the series’ famous motto and hinted that the rumors surrounding Black Flag might have some truth behind them. We also get the artwork bearing the Black Flag Resynced title, which serves as the first official acknowledgement of a project that has been circulating in leaks.

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise thanks to its pirate setting, naval combat, and open-world exploration. This title sold over 11 million copies and is often considered one of the best from the AC franchise.

Other Assassin’s Creed Projects in the works

The new Black Flag tease was only a part of Ubisoft’s larger update on the future of this franchise. The studio also briefly mentioned several other projects currently in development, which include:

  • Codename Hexe: A darker narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set during a “pivotal” historical period.
  • Codename Invictus: New multiplayer PvP project being developed by the For Honor team.
  • Assassin’s Creed Jade: The mobile RPG set in ancient China.

Aside from this, Ubisoft revealed an update to Assassin’s Creed Unity, which will finally receive a 60fps update on modern consoles.

There’s no official word on a release window for Black Flag Resynced yet, and the company has remained tight-lipped about gameplay details or platform plans. But for now, Ubisoft’s message is clear: the pirate adventures are making a return.
