Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the spinoff to the popular and critically acclaimed 2018 PlayStation game Marvel’s Spider-Man, launched on Windows PCs today, just three months after the original game did, too.
The game was developed by Insomniac Games (previously best known for the Ratchet & Clank franchise), PlayStation, and Marvel Games. This port is being done under the stewardship of Netherlands-based studio Nixxes Software, which was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment last year. The studio focuses on ports as well as supporting other studios’ productions in various ways.
The PC port contains all the content from the original game. On top of that, there are several enhancements, including support for Nvidia’s DLSS 2 and DLSS 3, as well as DLAA and Reflex, and AMD’s FSR 2.1. There are expanded settings for ray-traced shadows and reflections, and as with the previous game, strong ultra-wide and multi-monitor support.
As for input options, you can, of course, play with a keyboard and mouse. But you can also play with the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller via a USB-C connection to gain access to the DualSense-specific features for which the game was designed, such as haptics and adaptive triggers. If you want to come up with your own solution and mappings, the game works with the Steam Input system. A post on the PlayStation Blog goes into considerable detail with quotes from developers on defining the mouse-and-keyboard inputs for a game that was originally designed to be played on a controller.
In a lot of ways, I liked Spider-Man: Miles Morales more than Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game—which I also liked quite a bit. It refined some aspects of that first game, and more importantly, it felt like a tighter experience overall, with its shorter runtime and more focused story. And since we’ve all seen so many renditions of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, it was refreshing to see someone else wear the suit.
Insomniac previously announce it is working on a sequel to the first Spider-Man game, with the same scope as that original title. Its first marketing materials suggest that you will play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the new game. Insomniac is also working on a game based on another Marvel property: Wolverine.
Neither of those has been announced for PC just yet, but a PC release seems likely given Sony’s recent strategy—albeit sometime after the PlayStation versions hit physical and digital store shelves.
In the meantime, Miles Morales is available today on both Steam and the Epic Games Store at $49.99.
