Iran has once again rejected Donald Trump’s claims that it has reached “major points of agreement” with the United States.

The US president stated that there had been “very strong” discussions over the past day and insisted that Iran was “very much” seeking a deal.

He added that his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, conducted the talks on behalf of Washington.

However, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded on X, stating, “No negotiations have been held with the US, and fake news is being used to manipulate the financial and oil markets in order to escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped.

Iran’s foreign ministry confirmed that friendly countries relayed US requests for talks, but Tehran did not respond to these overtures.

The conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran have caused fresh confusion. An Israeli official told Reuters that Ghalibaf is, in fact, leading discussions with the US. Meanwhile, Tehran insists that Trump’s statements indicate he has “backed down” and that no direct negotiations have occurred.
