Samsung is finally answering a long-standing request from its users: Google Cast support is coming not just to its new TVs but also to some older models. This much-requested feature will be extended to select 2023 and 2024 models. It could even reach Smart Monitors and other recently launched Tizen OS devices.

The rollout started quietly, with a Reddit user sharing a snapshot of their S90D OLED TV receiving a major One UI Tizen update that includes Google Cast. This is huge for Samsung users who’ve been waiting for a simpler way to stream content from their Android devices. Before this, casting to Samsung TVs was mostly limited to Galaxy devices through Samsung’s own Smart View feature. Now, Android users, whether on smartphones, tablets, ChromeOS devices, or even the Google Chrome browser, can seamlessly cast images, music, and videos directly to compatible Samsung TVs.

When will this update reach your TV?

Samsung hasn’t revealed an exact schedule for all 2024 models, but the update is expected to reach more TVs in the coming weeks or months, depending on the region and device. If you’ve been waiting to cast your favorite content effortlessly from your Android device, the wait might soon be over.

Furthermore, the update also introduces features like Universal Gestures and a redesigned, more intuitive home screen. These enhancements promise to make navigating and interacting with your TV feel smoother and more natural than ever.

Why this update matters

For Samsung owners, this is a meaningful upgrade. Finally, Android users get the convenience they’ve been waiting for, with devices working together seamlessly and making the home entertainment experience feel smoother and a touch more magical. Honestly, this should have arrived much earlier, but no hard feelings. The fact that Samsung is delivering this long-awaited feature through a software update is what truly matters, and for many users, that’s reason enough to celebrate.
