Israel has carried out a wave of airstrikes across Lebanon, targeting over 100 Hezbollah positions, just hours after a ceasefire agreement brokered by Donald Trump with Iran.
The attacks struck Beirut, the Beqaa Valley, and southern Lebanon, undermining hopes for a rapid de-escalation in the region.

The Israeli Defence Forces said the strikes focused on Hezbollah headquarters, military positions, and command-and-control centres. They justified the operation by claiming civilians must reject the militant group’s entrenchment in urban areas.
One social media post on X described the scene: “Apocalyptic scenes in Lebanon’s capital right now. Israel has launched 100 airstrikes on Lebanon in 10 minutes, striking South Lebanon, Beirut, and the Bekaa Valley simultaneously. This isn’t a ceasefire; it’s mass bombardment of civilian areas.”

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that at least five neighbourhoods in central Beirut and along the coast were hit today. Lebanon’s Prime Minister condemned the strikes, warning they jeopardise peace efforts and violate international humanitarian law.
Analysts have warned that the timing of the attacks could inflame tensions across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider conflict despite the newly announced ceasefire framework between the US and Iran.

Israel military said in a statement: “The State of Lebanon and its civilians must refuse Hezbollah’s entrenchment in civilian areas and its weapons build-up capabilities.”
UNHCR, Lebanon wrote on X: “One of the largest waves of Israeli strikes so far has just hit over 60 locations across Beirut and beyond. Deaths are mounting. Destruction is massive. Civilians are paying the price. Again. They are not a target. They must be protected.
Around 100 Israeli strikes without prior warning hit Lebanon in under 10 minutes. Civilians are bearing the brunt including in Beirut neighbourhoods sheltering those already displaced. It cannot be said enough: civilians are not a target. They must be protected.”
