Half (48%) of the public say that their opinion of Rishi Sunak has got worse since the beginning of the election campaign, including a third (31%) of 2019 Conservative voters, according to new research from Savanta for the Telegraph.

Savanta’s findings suggest that the public perception of both Keir Starmer (NET +1) and Ed Davey (NET -2) has remained broadly neutral during the campaign, while both Nigel Farage (NET -17) and Sunak (NET -31) have suffered significant drops.

Sunak’s Conservative Party is also perceived seen by the public to be the most negative (NET -34) of all the major parties, with Labour (NET +13) the only party seen to have ran a positive campaign overall.

Chris Hopkins, Political Research Director at Savanta said, “This campaign is not the only reason the Conservatives are in a deep trouble, but it certainly hasn’t helped.

“The public thinks that the Conservatives have run the most negative campaign out of all the major parties, and half say their view of Sunak has got worse since the election was called. I’d imagine that’s the opposite of what the Conservative Party were hoping when the election was called.”
