A Ukrainian drone strike has destroyed an ammunition depot with massive explosions forcing a state of “emergency” to be declared.

The drone strike took place overnight in the Tikhoretsk district deep inside Russia. Russian air defences shot down the two drones, but falling debris started the fire that spread to “explosive objects” which started detonations within the warehouse.

The warehouse is thought to be storing ammunition provided by North Korea and the explosion was so massive that Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said residents in near by villages are being evacuated.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Kondratyev said: “At night, the Tikhoretsk district was subjected to a terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime.

“Two drones were suppressed by air defence and electronic warfare forces.

“The falling debris of one of them caused a fire that spread to explosive objects. Detonation began.”

He added: “Now, for safety reasons, residents of the village located near the fire site are being temporarily evacuated to nearby settlements.

“A temporary accommodation point has been set up in Tikhoretsk. Fire crews and special services are working at the scene.

“On my instructions, the head of the district, Anatoly Perepelin, is at the scene, reporting on the situation.

“According to preliminary information, there are no casualties among the residents of the district as a result of the emergency.”
