NATO has started “Steadfast Noon” military training exercise in handling nuclear weapons on Monday with member nations that will last for two weeks until 23 October.

There will be more than 60 warplanes which will take part of training flights over Western Europe and the fighter jets are all able to catty nuclear weapons, but non will be used during the drills.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, “Nuclear deterrence is the cornerstone of Allied security.

“Steadfast Noon is an important test of the Alliance’s nuclear deterrent and sends a clear message to any adversary that NATO will protect and defend all Allies.”

The drills involve 2,000 military personnel across eight air bases and includes the B-52 long-range nuclear bombers, fighter escorts, refuelling aircraft along with warplanes used for reconnaissance.

The Kremlin has yet again kicked up a fuss saying this nuclear exercise is escalating tensions.

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “Given the ‘hot war’ phase of the Ukrainian conflict, such drills will certainly lead to nothing but a further escalation of tensions.”

The flights will take place over the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark the North Sea and across most of northern England and Scotland.
