Morrisons has taken out an injunction against farmers for “unlawful protests” which is creating a “serious threat” to the retail industry.

Morrisons claim they support the farmers in their fight against the government over inheritance tax, but the supermarket chain said they have to “protect its business.”

On 16 January the Hugh Court issued the major injunction which does not allow anyone to enter land marked as part of the court order.

Blockades and obstructions to traffic, disruptions of routes used by Morrisons to deliver food or anything else related to the supermarket is forbidden.

A statement from Morrisons says, “Given the protests experienced recently and the serious threat of immediate further action, we’ve had to take the difficult decision to seek a High Court injunction to restrain unlawful protest action aimed at preventing us from operating from our sites referenced in the Injunction Order.

“However, please know that we remain committed to continuing to work with all our farming network on the issues that matter most to you.”
