The Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has blasted Sir Keir Starmer during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday over defence spending.

Badenoch raised her eyebrows after she claimed the Prime Minister “accepted my advice” on the defence increase.

Starmer told Badenoch “she didn’t feature in my thinking at all,” over the defence spending.

“I was so busy at the weekend I didn’t see her proposal,” he said, adding, “She’s appointed herself, I think, saviour of Western civilisation – it’s a desperate search for relevance.”

Badenoch asked Starmer over his defence spending plans and accused Labour of being inconsistent with the numbers.

She said the £13.4 billion announced on Tuesday and then the Defence Secretary saying on Wednesday the amount is actually closer to £6 billion, she asked which is the right number?

The Prime Minister told Badenoch in the House of Commons, “We went through this two weeks ago, going through the same question over and over again.

“If you take the financial year this year and then you take the financial year for 2027/28, the difference between the two is £13.4 billion.

“That is the same answer. If you ask again I will give the same answer again.”

Badenoch quipped, “Someone needs to tell the Prime Minister that being patronising is not a substitute for answering the question.”
