The US President has warned that “thousands” of Ukrainian troops are “completely surrounded” and are allegedly cut off in the Kursk region.

Donald Trump has asked Vladimir Putin to have their spare their lives as this could be a “horrible massacre” one that has not “been seen since World War II.”

On Thursday Sudzha was retaken by Russian troops and footage showed Ukrainian troops leaving the town.

Trump posted on Truth Social, “AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION.

“I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared.

“This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II.

“God bless them all!”

On Thursday Putin said Ukrainian soldiers are cut off inside Kursk, “If a physical blockade occurs in the coming days, then no one will be able to leave at all, there will be only two ways – to surrender or die.”

Sky News’s security and defence analyst Michael Clarke said on Friday, “Certainly the Ukrainians are withdrawing from Kursk, they had about a 35km pocket to get out of, that pocket has narrowed today,” he said.

“Some Ukrainians might have been captured – most of them, I think, can probably get away.”

He added, “I don’t think they’re in that situation at the moment, but undoubtedly, as we’ve been saying for the last 24 hours, if they’re going to get out they have to get out now.

“I think they will have done that yesterday, today and tomorrow.”

Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the General Staff of the Russian army, said this week that the Russian army has regained control of more than 86% of the Kursk Oblast, Ukraine said they are ready to fight in the Kursk for “as long as necessary.”

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Tuesday, there is ongoing fighting in the suburbs of Sudzha and surrounding areas of the key town.

He added, “In the most difficult situation, my priority has been and remains to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. To do this, the units of the Defense Forces, if necessary, manoeuvre to more favourable positions.”

He concluded that the it is a “difficult situation” and they will hold defensive lines in the Kursk for “as long as reasonable and necessary.”
