Russia’s advance into eastern parts of Ukraine is “stalling” and they have only seized 133 square kilometres in March.

This is the lowest monthly total since June last year according to the monitoring group, DeepState, the Kyiv Independent reported.

Despite this Russia’s offensive pace has started to increase since July and then in November 2024 it peaked, and they took 725 square kilometres.

Since the start of winter territorial gains has slowed as they only captured 401 square kilometres in December, 321 in January 2025 and just 189 the following month.

Around Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast Russian troops have continued with their offensive surrounding the city and by the end of last month fighting was reported to have intensified.

Commander in chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Monday that Russian troops are “stalling” and they are failing to advance in the area.
