The Kremlin has warned that “millions” of Russians could be mobilised “at any moment” as was seen with the Soviet Union during World War II.

During World War II “around 30 million” Soviets were killed, and this could happen again if needed.

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday during a lecture at the Victory Museum in Moscow, “If a great country needs to stand up, it will stand up at any moment. No one can have any doubts.”

Peskov said that “millions” of Russians are already helping the military in the war against Ukraine.

He said Russian’s are sending equipment, aid and ammunition to the frontlines using their own money.

The Kremlin’s spokesman added, “Somewhere around 30 million Soviet people… gave their lives in the fight against fascism.”

The Russian military are recruiting 30,000 to 40,000 people a month, US and EU intelligence told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Ukraine’s General Staff has said that Russia has lost 951,960 troops since 24 February 2022, NATO says that Moscow is losing around 1,000 soldiers a day.

Deputy Chairman of Russia‘s State Duma Defense Committee Alexei Zhuravlev has previously stated the Kremlin needs to increase mobilisation to prepare for a war with the West in the next four years.

He said, “It is necessary to prepare the male population and, naturally, to defend the homeland. We should talk about it and not be shy about it.”
