The Mayor of London has slammed the government over their mini budget and warned that the “markets don’t like this government,” Amrit Singh Mann at City Hall, reported.
Sadiq Khan has continued to criticise of the government’s mini-budget, and he told the London Assembly, “We need to ensure that everyone in our society can afford to buy things they need to get by.
“This is a government that says they love the markets, but the markets certainly don’t like this government.
“This is not a government on the side of ordinary Londoners. You don’t get economic growth by putting more wealth in the pockets of those few who already have plenty.”
Keith Price, the Tory assembly member for Havering and Redbridge, told Sky News that Khan should “take ownership and show leadership instead of blaming the government like with most things.”
Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves claimed that Kwarteng and Truss could be about to U-turn on more elements of the mini-budget.
She said, “Today’s mess shows the utter chaos this government is in.
“This is a crisis made in Downing Street and working people are paying the price.
“Labour has said repeatedly that they need to reverse the kamikaze budget and restore confidence.
“This is now urgent as the Bank of England’s intervention in the markets ends tomorrow.
“The Tories cannot allow the chaos caused by their mini-budget to continue any longer.”
