The US President has issued a deportation threat to the Tesla chief saying on Truth Social to “head back home to South Africa” as Donald Trump accused him of living off government handouts, despite the SpaceX owner being the richest man in the world.

On Tuesday Trump questioned outside the White House if Musk who a naturalised American from South Africa can legally be deported as their feud continues.

Trump said in response to his own question, “I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look.”

Trump added in a bizarre rant, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”

In recent weeks both Trump and Musk have been at loggerheads on social media and the SpaceX owner slammed the President’s sweeping tax and spending bill, which has been dubbed the “big beautiful bill.”

Musk wrote on X, “Those who campaigned on cutting spending but voted for this should hang their heads in shame.

“And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
