The Ukrainian President has said ahead of meeting the US President that Russia must “not be rewarded” for starting the full-scale invasion in Ukraine.
Last Friday Donald Trump held failed talks with Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska to end the war.
After the failed meeting in Alaska President Trump then turned to Ukraine for them to make concessions, and President Zelensky said last week that Kyiv will not cede any territory.
Trump has insisted that Zelensky can end the war “almost immediately, if he wants to” and the US President insisted that Ukraine will not be “getting back” Crimea.
European leaders and Kyiv have said they are against making a political and territorial concessions to Russia.
Zelensky wrote on social media on Monday, “Russia should not be rewarded for its participation in this war…. And it is Moscow that must hear the word: Stop.”
Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff told CNN that Moscow has already made “some concessions” on territory, he added there is an “important discussion with regard to Donetsk and what would happen there.
“That discussion is going to specifically be detailed on Monday.”
Yevgeniy Sosnovsky, a photographer who is from Mariupol told AFP he “cannot understand” how Kyiv will give up land they control, adding, “Ukraine cannot give up any territories, not even those occupied by Russia.”
