The first migrant deportation flights will start “imminently” under the “one in, one out” deal with Paris.

GB News reported the migrants will be sent back to France under the deal struck between Sir Keir Starmer and the French President Emmanuel Macron back in July.

On 6 August dozens of illegal migrants were rounded up and detained in Dover and the new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said last week they will be flown back to France “imminently.”

A Home Office spokesman said, “Under the new UK-France Treaty, people crossing in small boats can now be detained and removed to France.

“We expect the first returns to take place imminently.

“Protecting the UK border is our top priority. We will do whatever it takes to restore order to secure our borders.”

Mahmood announced last week that countries who fail to accept migrants from the UK could have British visas suspended.

Mahmood met with her opposite numbers from the Five Eyes Intelligence alliance to discuss efforts to tackle the smuggling gangs.

She hosted her counterparts from New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US in London.

Ministers are discussing the possible use of military bases to house asylum seekers in “temporary but adequate” living accommodation.
