More than 200 people have died in an Air India plane crash in Gujrat, India. The plane had over 50 Britons and was due to arrive at Gatwick Airport this evening.

British nationals who require consular assistance or have concerns about friends or family should call 020 7008 5000.

Air India has set up a dedicated hotline for passengers. Families in India seeking more information can call 1800 5691 444.

In addition to a dedicated helpline number in India – 1800 5691 444 – Air India has now set up a number for foreign nationals – 0091 8062779200.

And the UK’s Foreign Office has this number for British nationals who have concerns about friends or family: 020 7008 5000.

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has arranged crisis teams in India and the UK, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said today.

He told the Commons: “My thoughts, and I’m sure those of the entire House, are with those who’ve been affected by the tragic plane crash in India this morning.

“We know that British nationals were on board and I can confirm that the FCDO is working urgently with local authorities to support British nationals and their families, and has stood up a crisis team in both Delhi and in London.”
