The German multinational store Aldi is to give their workers a pay rise in March making the company the best paying supermarket chain in the UK.
Aldi employs 45,000 people and has 1,020 stores across the UK, their workers will receive a minimum hourly rate to £12.71 from £12.40 per hour.
Employees in London will receive an hourly rate to at least £14.00 from £13.65.
Aldi’s boss Giles Hurley signed an open letter the Chancellor warning Rachel Reeves over the impact of soaring taxes on businesses from the Autumn Budget.
The Chancellor announced during the Budget that employee National Insurance contributions and the minimum wage will rise to help provide extra funding for public services.
The letter reads, “We appreciate the Government’s commitment to improving public finances and investing in public services, and we recognise the vital role businesses play in supporting these efforts.
“However, the scale and speed of these new costs create a cumulative burden that will inevitably lead to job losses and higher prices.”
Hurley said, “Our colleagues are the best in the business and this latest pay rise reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring they remain the best paid.
“Every single Aldi colleague plays an absolutely vital role in delivering on our promise to bringing unbeatable Aldi prices to even more customers across the UK.”
