The world’s newest and fastest set of gaming processors has been announced by AMD’s new Zen 4 desktop CPU ranges.

The Ryzen 7000 series of desktop processors from AMD will be the first desktop PC CPUs from any manufacturer to be based on a 5nm process, and they will also be the first AMD CPUs to feature boost clocks over 5GHz.

Compared to the 2020 Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, this generation of chips will have smaller and consequently more transistors because of the 5nm manufacturing technology. The end user typically receives greater power as a result of the processor being able to execute more calculations while producing less heat.

The core numbers AMD used for Zen 3 are being maintained. The 6-core Ryzen 5 7600X is the entry-level model and will retail for the same $299; the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900X will retail for the same $549. The 8-core Ryzen 7 7700X starts at $399, compared to the 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X’s $699 launch price.

AMD claims that during the course of Zen 4’s development, “optimizations” raised its instructions-per-clock (IPC) improvement over Zen 3 to an average of 13%.

The first four Ryzen 7000 processors will go on sale on Sept 27.
