What would you say is the most important quality for a financial advisor to have?

I’d say a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. I’ve always made that a priority, from when I first started out of school right up to the present day. Staying up to date on investment trends and keeping abreast of all the latest tools and research is something that I owe to myself and to my clients.

How do you assure your clients that you’re recommending strategies and investments that are in their best interest?

As a financial advisor, I think it’s important to show clients that you have a real grasp on their individual needs. They have to know that you’re not just presenting the same product or advice to every client, and that you’re listening to what their priorities are. The goal is to provide customized services. As for peace of mind, we strive for transparency in everything we do. We show our clients our work, so to speak, so they know the process by which we’ve decided on the solutions we’re offering them. Then we collaborate and work together to find the right course, and our clients feel like they’re a part of the process.

Would you say you’ve established an identity or a brand as a financial advisor? Is that a goal of yours?

Not necessarily – but if I had to say what makes my approach unique, I’d say it’s a focus on promoting health as a key element of prosperity and incorporating that into making the right financial decisions. I know there’s a strong link between maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the ability to achieve success in anything you’re doing. The well-being of my clients is the priority, and so I take any opportunity to help them make the right choices for their health. In my own life, I know that healthy routines, such as good nutrition and consistent exercise, are absolutely essential for achieving my goals. It leads to better outcomes in all areas of life.

How does that look in practice, in terms of making long-term plans for the financial futures of your clients?

When we’re making those long-term financial plans for clients, I make sure to incorporate a long-term personal plan into the equation. It becomes a dual investment philosophy, where the financial and the personal goals share equal merit. As an advisor, I want to be able to offer my clients the best options for their plans. I keep my certifications up to date and work on improving all aspects of my performance, including communication skills and listening. I take great pride in taking a holistic approach to my career.

How do you approach the demands of the job when clients become anxious or want to discuss things in particular depth?

The part of the job that I take the most pride in is being able to address my clients’ concerns in an honest and understanding manner. If we have to meet all afternoon to make a certain decision, then that’s what we’ll do. I happen to work in the same region where I grew up here in New Brunswick, and I know the area and a lot of the people in an intimate way. I’m happy to take a call at any time from any of my clients. Most of them have my cell phone number. I’m always ready to meet with them in person or over Zoom at a moment’s notice. I think when you take that kind of personalized approach, people realize you care, and they’re able to trust you with important decisions.
