On Tuesday Kyiv announced that Ukrainian troops have captured “two Chinese citizens” who were fighting for Vladimir Putin in the Occupied region of Donetsk Oblast.

On Wednesday Beijing said they are “verifying” the claims that Kyiv has captured two Chinese nationals inside Ukraine.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, “The Chinese side is verifying relevant information with the Ukrainian side.

“The Chinese government has always asked its citizens to stay away from areas of armed conflict (and) avoid involvement in armed conflicts in any form.”

On Tuesday President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered the Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to summons China’s charge d’affaires to demand an explanation.

Washington said the development is “disturbing” and the US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, “We’re aware of those reports that Ukraine captured two Chinese citizens fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine.”

President Zelensky said on Tuesday, that “one more country has now joined Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

President Zelensky confirmed, “We have information that there are much more than two such Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units.

“We have the documents of these prisoners, bank cards, personal data.”

It has become clear that China is yet another country, like North Korea and Iran that support Putin’s war in Ukraine.
