The former Defence Minister Ben Wallace has insulted Labour’s “triple lock” nuclear deterrent vow as a “triple c**k.”

The Tory MP and former British Army officer called for 3% rise of GDP and not Labour’s 2.5%.

Wallace told The Sun’s Never Mind The Ballots programme, this “Triple c**k I think the while thing is.

“It’s all made up.”

The former Defence Secretary said that Labour is “fundamentally dishonest,” Wallace added, “Both Labour and Conservative governments over the last two, three, decades hollowed out defence.

“I think there’s a lot of dishonesty going on in Labour’s pitch. Half the shadow cabinet voted against Trident.”

The Labour Shadow Defence Secretary John Healey will attend a NATO summit in Washington in July, should they win the general election.

It is expected that Healey will tell NATO leaders, “European allies will need to do more of the heavy-lifting in NATO to safeguard our security, which is why Labour is totally committed to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP.

“The last time the UK spent 2.5% on defence was when Labour was last in power.”

Wallace said, “Labour keep using this funny little phrase ‘when economic conditions allow’. We don’t say that about the health service. We should say ‘when threat demands it’.”

Towards the end of April, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak warned the world is “more volatile and dangerous” since the Cold War.

Wallace told BBC Radio 4’s World At One programme, “The threat is rising towards the end of the decade, I would suggest, as others have, that towards the end of the decade we should be spending 3% of GDP.

“However, to get there you have to follow a progressive line, you can’t just dollop billions of dollars or pounds to a department who won’t be able to spend it.”
