The former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has warned Sir Keir Starmer that he will not be able to “take back control of our borders.”

This comes as the Prime Minister has announced the government will end the “squalid chapter” for politics and an immigration white paper has been published on Monday.

Starmer on Monday morning that the UK is becoming an “island of strangers” unless there is controls put in place on immigration.

Labour has said they will “take back control” of the UK’s borders, but Starmer has refused to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Braverman wrote on X, “I’ve heard too many empty promises to believe this time will be any different.

“More empty rhetoric from Labour. Without leaving the ECHR and scrapping the Human Rights legislation we are unable to take back control of our borders.”

Richard Tice, the Reform UK deputy leader said, “Starmer’s invasion continues,” he added, “[The] British taxpayer suffers even more.”

The Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said that Starmer has copied the Brexit slogan after he unveiled his stance on the UK’s “broken” borders.

Farage told GB News that Starmer is being “insincere” as he is “playing catch up” on immigration.

The Prime Minister claimed on Monday that with Labour’s new reforms it will be “controlled, selective and fair.”

Starmer added that they will recognise “those who genuinely contribute to Britain’s growth and society, while restoring common sense and control to our borders.

“This is a clean break from the past and will ensure settlement in this country is a privilege that must be earned, not a right…and when people come to our country, they should also commit to integration and to learning our language.”
