OpenAI is reportedly preparing to bring its highly acclaimed AI video generator directly into ChatGPT, potentially giving more users a way to create short videos with simple text prompts directly in the chat interface.

According to The Information, people familiar with OpenAI’s plans say the company intends to launch Sora within ChatGPT in the near future. The move would mark a significant step toward integrating more advanced multimodal capabilities into the company’s flagship AI assistant.

Sora is OpenAI’s text-to-video generation tool that allows users to create short video clips from simple text prompts. It can produce realistic and stylized scenes and is part of a broader push by the company to expand generative AI beyond text and images.

OpenAI first released Sora as a standalone app in September last year, where users could generate and share AI videos in a format resembling a social media feed. The company now appears to be looking to integrate the technology within ChatGPT to reach a broader audience.

Adding Sora to ChatGPT could greatly expand the tool’s reach

Bringing Sora directly into ChatGPT could make video generation far more accessible to everyday users. Instead of switching between apps, users would be able to generate videos within a conversation, similar to how ChatGPT already produces text, images, and other content.

The integration would also help OpenAI compete more aggressively in the text-to-video space, where rival AI firms have released similar tools that turn written prompts into short videos. The move is not expected to impact the standalone Sora app, with OpenAI reportedly planning to keep it functional following the integration.

OpenAI has yet to make anything official, so it remains unclear when the integration might happen. The company will likely share more details ahead of the rollout.
