The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has come under fire as critics claim the charity is “encouraging illegal activity” by assisting migrant boats crossing the English Channel.

Some long-time supporters said they no longer wish to fund the organisation, arguing that the service is “encouraging illegal activity” and is “shocking and unacceptable.”

One critic told The Sun: “It’s shocking to see a charity effectively acting as a taxi service for people breaking the law.”

A donor told The Sun, “It’s shocking. They’re saving lives, yes — but they’re also sending the wrong message.

“Stop funding them until they rethink this.”

The RNLI defended its operations, insisting that its crews respond only to emergencies. A spokesperson said, “Our mission is to save lives at sea, no matter who is in danger. We do not transport people for convenience — we act when lives are at risk.”

Charity watchdogs have highlighted growing public concern, and donations to the RNLI have reportedly fallen in response to the controversy.

The issue comes amid heated debates in the UK over immigration policy and the rising number of small boats crossing the Channel.

Despite the criticism, the RNLI says its priority remains the safety of anyone at risk in UK waters, emphasizing that its crews operate under strict guidelines to prevent loss of life.
