The former Chairman of the Defence Select Committee, Tobias Ellwood has warned “there’s a 1938 feel to the world” meaning we are in a pre-war period as was seen prior to World War Two which started on 1 September 1939.

Ellwood told GB News “We are attacked daily by Russia, let me make that clear,” which many Brits may be unaware off.

He said this is “all designed to cause economic harm” and “sow political confusion” which is all part of Vladimir Putin’s strategy against Britain.

The much-respected MP suggested the UK is facing conflict, he said, “There’s a 1938 feel to the world right now,” but suspects he won’t as the US is part of NATO, for now.

Ellwood said, “What Russia does is to probe, to see where there are weaknesses, to use proxy influences – the green men, as they’re called – those not in uniform, to cause havoc and deniable attacks on Europe and indeed the UK,” he added Europe is now in “a new era of insecurity.”

He said there various things that Russia can do to the UK, “If your power goes out, which it could easily do in London, or, let’s say there’s a swarm drone attack up the Thames that would take out our ability to have water for a number of days.”

Speaking about the fire at the electrical substation which disrupted Heathrow Airport, he warned this clearly demonstrates how vulnerable the UK’s infrastructure is.

He warned, “Imagine that happening on a wider scale, meaning that there’s no electricity in swathes of the South West or South East or Scotland or anywhere for days on end.”

Regarding Britain’s national security and the threats that Russia does pose to the UK it is worth “asking those difficult questions now, can’t be a bad thing.”

The European Union are strongly urging all members to prepare for three days of survival kits as there are growing concerns that global war could breakout.

The European Union crisis management commissioner Hadja Lahbib said this is part of a wider “preparedness strategy.”

EU leaders have constantly warned they fear Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine could lead to a global war.

Commissioner Lahbib told AFP, “Knowing what to do in case of danger, gaming out different scenarios, that’s also a way to prevent people from panicking.”

She added, “All of this comes in addition to national strategies.”
