The US President held a so-called “productive” call with the Russian dictator last week and they have agreed a second Ukraine summit.

Donald Wrote on social media the meeting will take place in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, but did not reveal a date.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social, “I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation.”

This then scuppered the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky walking away from the Washington meeting with no Tomahawks on Friday, thanks to Putin.

Putin has now got what he wants yet again from Trump and the Russia dictator has only called for the meeting with the US President to prevent Kyiv receiving the Tomahawks.

Putin has said that he wants peace but yet the brutal and deadly Russian attacks continue daily on Ukraine.

Professor Anthony Glees told the Mirror that Putin meeting with Trump in Budapest could be dangerous for the Russian despot as NATO and the EU could “shoot down” his plane.

Prof Glees told the media outlet, “Hungary is also in many ways a deeply humiliating venue for the vile Russian dictator.

For one thing, he’ll have to work out how to get to Hungary without overflying the airspace of the NATO and EU members that surround Hungary. What should be a quick hop from Moscow will have to be routed via the Black Sea, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and then to Budapest, a 2,000 mile detour.

This will remind the world that all civilised countries regard Putin as a major war criminal.

Prof Glees continued,  “In theory, overflying NATO members’ airspace could lead to Putin’s being shot down, something many would regard as a fitting end but perhaps a bit too risky.

“After all Putin has admitted shooting down the Azerbaijani jet in December 2024, and the world believes Russian troops destroyed Malaysia Flight MH17 in 2014, not to mention Putin shooting down Yevgeny Prigozhin’s jet in summer 2023.

He added, “Hungary is also the place where in 1994 the US, UK and Russia guaranteed the security of an independent Ukraine in return for Ukraine giving up the nukes stored there.

“That did not go well, of course.”
