Dubai authorities are currently addressing a serious missile threat following a series of explosions that were reported across various neighbourhoods in the city on Friday.
The disturbances began around 5:55 PM local time, with residents in areas such as Deira Murraqabat and others describing loud “booms” that reverberated throughout the emirate.
These noises created a wave of concern among the population, leading many to seek information on the situation.
In response to the potential threat, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority confirmed that the country’s air defence systems had been activated.
They are actively monitoring the situation and implementing necessary defence protocols to protect the civilian population.
The UAE Ministry of Defence issued a statement stating that ballistic missiles had been detected in the vicinity, prompting a swift military response. Fighter aircraft were deployed to intercept not only missiles but also other aerial threats, including drones and loitering munitions that could pose safety risks.
UAE’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed on Friday afternoon their air defences are responding to Iranian missiles and a drone, they added, “MOD asserts that the sounds heard are the result of the Air Defence.”
UAE’s MoD said in a statement: “The UAE’s air defenses are currently dealing with missile attacks and incoming drones originating from Iran, and the Ministry of Defense confirms that the sounds heard in scattered areas of the country are the result of air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, as well as fighter jets intercepting drones and loitering munitions.

Authorities clarified that the loud explosions heard in various locations across the city likely resulted from successful interceptions by the city’s air defence systems, designed to neutralise incoming threats before they could reach populated areas.
In light of these developments, officials have advised residents to stay indoors and to closely follow updates and safety instructions provided through official government channels.
This situation has heightened anxiety within the community, particularly as it coincides with rising tensions in the broader Middle East region, stemming from recent conflicts involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Several Gulf states are on high alert, anticipating potential retaliatory strikes in the aftermath of these escalating hostilities. The government’s response aims to ensure public safety while maintaining clear communication throughout this critical situation.
