The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally swung in, teasing Peter Parker’s biggest challenge yet. Set four years after the events of No Way Home, the story follows superhero Spider-Man (Tom Holland) as he fights crime in a world that has forgotten Peter Parker ever existed. This will be Spider-Man’s fourth solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the trailer has already revealed a lot of sweet details about Brand New Day.

What does Brand New Day’s trailer reveal about Peter’s adventure?

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Peter entering a hectic phase of his life. He has been very busy protecting the people of New York from crime as Spider-Man, having received a key to the city for his heroism. At the same time, he clearly misses his life with Ned (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya), who have both moved on study at MIT without him. Peter tries to brush aside his heartache, saying:

“Sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing, even if it means breaking Peter Parker’s heart.”

It’s clear that Peter is under a lot of pressure, and that causes him to pass out in his apartment. He then wakes up in a silk cocoon in a room filled with spider webs, having gained the ability to shoot organic webs like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.

Peter then learns that his DNA is mutating, giving him new powers and heightened senses that could bring dangerous changes to his body. His eyes even turn black, suggesting a transformation into a creature like Man-Spider or even Venom. His mutation is summarized in a by a Keith David-sounding voiceover saying:

“Spiders have three life cycles. When between cycles, it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats. And for those spiders who make it through, it amounts to a kind of…rebirth.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day features some new and familiar faces

In the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter finally reunites with his true love MJ. Though she still wears the necklace Peter gave to her in Spider-Man: Far From Home, she doesn’t remember him or their romantic relationship. As a result, Peter sees MJ at a party, dating another man played by Star Wars: Ahsoka’s Eman Esfandi. Peter also comes across his old buddy, Ned, who is still good friends with MJ.

The trailer also shows Spider-Man meeting with some other superpowered allies/rivals from across the MCU. To understand his new mutation, Peter seeks the help of Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who now works as a college professor at Empire State University with no memory of their teamup in Avengers: Endgame.

We also see Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), hit Spidey with his van in a scene that seems to pay homage to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Their dialogue implies that the two of them have known each other for quite some time, but Spidey clearly doesn’t like Punisher’s more violent methods as a crimefighter.

In addition, Brand New Day‘s trailer gives us glimpses of Spider-Man facing his latest enemies on the streets of New York. Our hero battles masked lesser-known vigilantes like Boomerang and Tarantula, as well as a team of red-clad, sword-wielding samurai.

Also, almost ten years after Spider-Man: Homecoming, actor Michael Mando has returned as criminal Mac Gargan, who has finally become the supervillain Scorpion. With a high-tech suit and lethal tail, Gargan gives Spidey the brutal beatdown and makes a stunning debut in the MCU.

Severance actor Tramell Tillmann appears in Brand New Day‘s trailer as well. His character is shown meeting with Spider-Man, saying, “We are faced with a danger we can’t control. One we can’t even see.” This line suggests Tillmann is playing someone working with the government to capture the film’s big bad.

While so many notable actors and characters appear in the trailer, Sadie Sink’s (Stranger Things) mysterious character in Brand New Day is noticeably absent. She could be the hooded figure in the trenchcoat with their back turned to the camera. She could even be the one seemingly transferring their mind to different people.

While Sink could be playing the main antagonist, the film’s mind-hopping figure supports the popular fan theory that Sink is actually the new Jean Grey. Given the secrecy surrounding her character, the truth about who she is in the film could be one huge spoiler. We’ll just have to wait and see who Sink is in the MCU.

Excited for Tom Holland’s next film? Watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters on July 31, 2026.
