The EvaluateLocate Key Cities Tracker index rates the cities on the basis of 96 economic and demographic metrics which are grouped around business density; labour market conditions; average residential values; and population movements.

In terms of an improvement in economic momentum, Hull and Glasgow both ranked above London, Sheffield, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Adam Kirby of EvaluateLocate said, “Hull highlights that locations across the country follow different economic trajectories – especially in uncertain times.

“It is an important port and is now also developing a growing renewable energy sector demonstrated by Greenport Hull and the planned Green Hydrogen production facility.

“Generally, the slow road back to economic growth is still highly localised, but is now more widespread through the regions and is not confined to more traditionally affluent areas. Whilst the UK may technically be in recession, this data shows that economic momentum is gradually improving.”
