On March 24, 2026, Apple released iOS 26.4, the fourth major installment in the iOS 26 upgrade cycle. The latest iPhone operating system, which takes up 16.46 GB on my iPhone 17, comes with plenty of new features.

You can download it on your iPhone by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 26.4 doubles down on Apple Music

To begin with, iOS 26.4 comes with Playlist Playground (beta), a new Apple Music feature that uses AI to generate full playlists, along with titles, descriptions, and tracklists, from a simple text prompt. All you need to do is describe the vibe, and Apple Music will do the heavy lifting for you.

There’s a new Concerts feature in the app that shows nearby shows from artists in your library. It also suggests new artists you might want to catch live, based on your music taste and listening habits, great for discovering someone when they’re still underrated.

The Offline Music Recognition feature identifies songs even without cellular data or Wi-Fi and quietly delivers the result once you’re back online. Finally, there’s a new Ambient Music widget that lets you access curated playlists for moods — sleep, chill, productivity, and wellbeing — straight from your home screen.

What else does the new software update offer?

Beyond the Apple Music updates, iOS 26.4 ships with eight new emojis, including an orca, a trombone, a ballet dancer, a landslide, and, my favorite, a wonderfully chaotic, distorted face. Freeform gets advanced image creation and editing tools alongside a premium content library through Apple’s Creator Studio.

You can now mark tasks as urgent, directly from the Quick Toolbar or with a long press, in the Reminders app. There’s also improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly, an under-the-radar fix that you’ll notice immediately after installing the iOS 26.4 update.

With iOS 26.4, adult members in a Family Sharing group can use their own payment method when making purchases, without having to route everything through the organiser. This is yet another welcome change for Family users.

There are quite a few accessibility additions as well. A new Reduce Bright Effects setting reduces flashes when tapping buttons, and subtle settings are now available directly from the captions icon when watching media. Reduce Motion tones down Liquid Glass animations more visibly.
