iOS 26.4 update finally fixes the annoying iPhone keyboard bug

The iOS keyboard text prediction is not as good as Android’s, but it was never so bad as to cause typing errors. That changed with the iOS 26 update, which introduced an annoying bug that induced errors when typing fast on your iPhone.

Several Reddit users have reported encountering this bug, and YouTuber Michi NekoMichi documented a similar bug in detail in a video. He found that when typing quickly on an iPhone, iOS correctly recognizes the letter tapped but inserts a different one instead.

With the latest iOS 26.4 RC that Apple released to developers and public beta testers today, Apple has finally fixed this bug.

What exactly was going wrong with the keyboard?

The bug caused characters to appear as if they were tapped on the keyboard, but never actually made it into your text. Those ghost taps then confused Apple’s auto-correction, which was trying to predict your words based on incomplete input.

The Reddit thread from last month is filled with complaints from users who ran into this exact issue. The common thread across most of them is that it mostly happens when you are typing quickly.

Apple quietly introduced the fix in an earlier iOS 26.4 beta, and users have already started noticing the improvement. That’s a good sign heading into the stable release.

What does this mean for you?

If you haven’t experienced any typing errors on your iPhone, this may not mean much to you. But if this bug has been frustrating you and making you think you were typing incorrectly, this update should fix the issue and save you from repeatedly deleting and retyping your text.

iOS 26.4 RC is currently available to developers and public beta testers. It is expected to be released as a stable version to the public by the end of this month.
