Seven in ten (69%) of the UK public say the Conservative Party is “in a crisis”, according to new research from polling company Savanta.

The findings, conducted after it was revealed Rishi Sunak had left D-Day commemorations early (7-9 June) and with many polling companies predicting significant Labour majorities, suggests that even six in ten (58%) of those who voted Conservative in 2019 think the party is in crisis.

Five out of six (85%) of those intending to vote Reform UK at this election – key target voters for Sunak – say the Conservatives are in crisis, as do 69% of those who say they’re still undecided.

Just 18% of the public say the Conservative is “not in a crisis”, with one in seven (13%) saying they don’t know.

Emma Levin, Associate Director at Savanta said, “When senior government ministers are having to confirm that their leader will definitely still be around by polling day, it’s unsurprising that the voters have picked up a sense of crisis enveloping the Conservative Party.

Our research suggests that some of Rishi Sunak’s key target voters – namely those currently saying they’re going to vote for Reform UK – are some of the most likely to say the Conservatives are in crisis.
