Under Alejandro Pena, Keter CEO, the company recently released its annual Sustainability Report, transparently giving insight into an unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Meeting a firm’s challenging sustainability goals requires a concerted effort from all team members. When an international corporation makes a sustainability pledge, divisions in every involved country must be on board. Even with this well-defined commitment, global companies may find it difficult to make solid progress on every front.

However, many global corporations don’t possess Keter’s ironclad commitment to long-term sustainability. In 2023, this thriving consumer lifestyle solutions provider made significant progress toward each sustainability goal. When obstacles appeared, Keter’s resourceful leaders navigated or found a way around them. Today, the company is well-positioned to meet its Sustainability 2025 Pledge goals.

Keter’s 2023 product highlights

Keter has long been known for its functional, sustainable home and garden lifestyle products. Each Keter product features clean, modern styling adaptable to lawns, patios, or balconies. Whether residents and guests gather for Happy Hour drinks or an alfresco dinner, Keter’s outdoor furniture can easily accommodate them. Keter’s sleek, durable garden boxes and sturdy sheds enhance many residential landscapes.

Keter’s resin-based products are designed to last for years in any weather conditions. All Keter products contain an increasingly higher percentage of recycled materials. Finally, all Keter products are 100 percent recyclable.

Keter’s expanded product line and enhanced distribution networks

Identifying products customers want, and making it easy to obtain them, sets the stage for positive results. Keter introduces new products and distribution channels on a regular basis.

The company’s eCommerce sales channel launches have been followed by tailored product introductions. Concurrently, Keter premiered a distribution network to enable customers to purchase those products from Keter’s website. This method joins Keter’s in-store and online offerings together with large retail businesses.

As Keter matches production to regional demand, inventory management becomes simpler. Lower product transportation needs mean reduced environmental impact.

Made-to-order storage products

During 2023, Keter pioneered the innovative DecoCoat technology that offers wood-look finishes for multiple Keter products. During the product design phase, Keter now includes ultraviolet protection that minimizes visible marks and scratches. These functionalities are currently applicable to sheds, storage containers, benches, and other products.

In 2024, Keter offers purpose-built sheds and has added enhancements to current shed models. A greenhouse-like potting shed and a bicycle storage shed are good examples.

Increased focus on product circularity

As a major global resin user, Keter’s multiple manufacturing plants embrace the product circularity concept. Specifically, the company uses an ever-increasing percentage of recycled materials in its production operations.  Keter also takes multiple steps to minimize supply chain waste. Finally, Keter products are 100 percent recyclable.

Keter also integrates the circularity paradigm into its design and development process. To illustrate, Keter’s design and production experts frequently invent new processes that can handle specific material blends. This ensures the finished products can be recycled when their useful life is over. Keter also consistently works to influence other companies to adopt similar large-scale circularity practices.

Three notable circularity partnerships

During 2023, Keter engaged in 3 large-scale circularity partnerships, each of which positively impacted a specific market.

  • Developed a circular solution for Leroy Merlin, a large European home and garden products retailer
  • Worked with major European retailers to promote the takeback and recycling of unwanted plastic products
  • Partnered with the Decathlon global sports equipment brand, establishing a clothes hanger recycling operation in Israel

Working toward a better planet

Keter’s Everyday Sustainability Pledge embodies the company’s desire to work toward a better planet. First, Keter integrates an increasing percentage of recycled materials into production and ensures all products are recyclable. Keter also strives to maximize resource efficiency, streamline supply chain operations, and eliminate landfill-bound waste.

In 2023, the company saw 11 percent of waste routed to landfills. This figure represented the best-ever outcome since Keter began measuring its waste in 2017. For perspective, five European plants (or 41 percent of the region’s production output) sent zero waste to area landfills in 2023.

Finally, Keter continues to make progress on decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2018, the company has reduced absolute electricity emissions by 27 percent (including a 9 percent reduction in 2023). Replacing energy-inefficient equipment, and using new energy-efficiency management tools, are two key strategies. Taken together, Keter’s achievements mark significant progress in realizing its production-related sustainability goals.
