Moscow warns the ‘West is testing Russia, we will strike back’ – London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com

Vladimir Putin’s inner circle has launched a fiery warning over the seizure of Russian oil transport ships, part of the so-called “shadow fleet.”

Nikolai Patrushev, Kremlin Maritime Board chief, blasted the UK, US, and other nations, saying they are “testing the limits of our patience” — and hinted that Moscow could respond with harsh measures if the actions continue.

The shadow fleet, secretly ferrying Russian energy to global markets despite sanctions, has become a red line for Moscow, with Patrushev demanding a “tough rebuff” against the nations interfering with Russia’s shipments.

Analysts warn the threat marks a dangerous escalation in tensions over energy and sanctions enforcement, as the Kremlin seeks to intimidate Western navies and governments.

With oil routes and international waters at stake, Patrushev’s words are being read as a clear message, Moscow may act if it sees further interference.

“The West is pushing too far — and Russia will not stay silent,” Patrushev said, in a chilling message to Europe and the US.

Patrushev told Russian media, “If we don’t give them a tough rebuff, then soon the British, French and even the Balts [Baltic states] will become arrogant to such an extent that they will try to block our country’s access to the seas at least in the Atlantic basin.

He added, “In the main maritime areas, including regions far from Russia, substantial forces must be permanently deployed – forces capable of cooling the ardour of Western pirates.

“Any attempt at a naval blockade of our country is completely illegal from the standpoint of international law, and the concept of a ‘shadow fleet’, which EU representatives brandish at every turn, is a legal fiction.

Putin’s close ally then warned, “By implementing their naval blockade plans, the Europeans are deliberately pursuing a scenario of military escalation, testing the limits of our patience and provoking active retaliatory measures.

The UK is preparing bold action against Russia’s secretive “shadow fleet” of ships that dodge sanctions to fund Moscow’s war in Ukraine, government and intelligence sources revealed on Sunday.

“Every vessel we seize is a direct blow to Russia’s war machine,” warned a senior defense insider.

The shadow fleet operates by flying fake flags, hiding cargo, and concealing ownership, allowing Russia to evade international sanctions. Officials say the UK is working with allies across Europe and the US to track, monitor, and potentially seize rogue vessels both in ports and on the high seas.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper sounded the alarm, “We cannot allow Russia to fund its aggression while hiding in plain sight. The shadow fleet is next on our radar.”
