Should these reports be confirmed as accurate then this will be of grave concern to Kyiv, NATO and their allies.

Oleksandr Suprunyuk, the mayor of the city of Netishyn which is near the plant said, “Stopping the units. There is no electricity, water, possibly heat.”

Defence analyst Professor Michael Clarke told Sky News that Vladimir Putin is “trying to take out all electricity in Ukraine to leave the country with no power during the winter.

“One of the best ways the West can help now is to help the Ukrainians repair the system as the Russians are attacking it.

“It’s a new dimension of the war, which is just really getting serious from this week.”

The Ukrainian President’s deputy chief of staff Kyrylo Tymoshenko said the air strikes which hit Kyiv has left at least one person dead and another injured as a two story building was hit by a missile.

He added, “Rescuers are already providing assistance to the victims and are working on eliminating the consequences.”

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram, that “one of the capital’s infrastructure facilities has been hit.”

Klitschko is urging people to “stay in shelters! The air alert continues.”

As a result of the air strikes on Ukraine Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu tweeted, “Massive blackout in Moldova after today’s Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.”
