Donald Trump has officially been declared as the 47th US President and he “will be key” to keeping NATO strong.

During his first term as the 45th American President there was “no wars” and the US “defeated ISIS” Trump declares.

Nato secretary general Mark Rutte said that President Trump “will again be key to keeping our alliance strong.”

He added, “Through Nato, the US has 31 friends and allies who help to advance US interests, multiply American power and keep Americans safe.”

He added, “Two-thirds of Allies now spend at least 2% of their GDP (gross domestic product) on defence, and defence spending and production are on an onward trajectory across the alliance.”

The former Tory Defence Secretary Sir Ben Wallace said that Trump will now spur more NATO members to up the defence spending to commit more to their spending of GDP.

Sir Ben who is a former British Army officer said, “Whatever your feelings about the US election are, the best insurance for all our security is to invest in our own defence and security right across Europe.”
