Following the sunniest spring on record the northwest of England is now officially in drought status as water levels in reservoirs has declined.
The Environment Agency (EA) has said they will ensure water companies including the northwest water supplier United Utilities are prepared to support their customers.
“I’m doing everything in my power to hold United Utilities to account to ensure we have the regular supply of water that is needed across the region,” Water Minister Emma Hardy said in a statement.
Next Thursday the National Drought Group will meet to discuss what is happening in reservoirs across the UK.
