The OnePlus 15R will arrive with the firm’s “best ever selfie camera” as a 32MP front-facing snapper is officially confirmed just days ahead of the phone’s global launch.

It’s replacing the OnePlus 13R, which seriously impressed us at the start of this year and features a 16MP selfie snapper.

As well as being the first OnePlus phone with a 32MP front camera, the 15R is also boasting a couple more firsts, with autofocus on the selfie cam for the first time in an R Series handset.

Plus 4K video at up to 30 frames per second recording on the front camera will also debut on the 15. The 13R only offered 1080p (Full HD) recording on its front snapper.

What’s left to reveal?

This isn’t the first time OnePlus has confirmed details of the 15R ahead of its launch. We have previously learned the phone will come with a huge 7,400mAh battery, that’s even bigger than the sizable 7,300mAh power pack found in its flagship sibling, the OnePlus 15.

There should be a decent amount of power available too, as the OnePlus 15R will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which delivers healthy improvements in CPU, GPU and NPU performance over its predecessor, while also being less power-hungry thanks to its 3nm design.

We also know the screen will deliver 120fps gaming and a 165Hz refresh rate, plus there’s IP66/68/69/69K dust and water resistance, making it the phone with the industry’s most complete IP ratings.

We’re still waiting to find out how much the OnePlus 15R will cost, but the hope would be it maintains the $599 of the 13R – a phone we said was the best use of $600 this year. Well, the 15R might have a case to nab that title from its older family member.

The OnePlus 15R launch event takes place on December 17, where it’ll arrive alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 tablet and Watch Lite. You can watch the launch event live as it’ll be livestreamed on the OnePlus website.
