Vladimir Putin has made a direct accusation against Britain, claiming that it played a key role in orchestrating a devastating missile strike on one of Russia’s most sensitive military technology plants, located in Ukraine.
According to various Russian sources, the attack involved up to seven Storm Shadow cruise missiles, which were supplied to Ukraine by the United Kingdom.
These missiles targeted the Silicon El microelectronics factory situated in Bryansk Oblast, mere miles from the Ukrainian border.
The missile strike had catastrophic consequences, leading to the reported deaths of six individuals and injuring 42 others, with a concerning 10 of the wounded in critical condition. This plant is significant because it is believed to produce advanced microchips essential to various Russian weapons systems, thereby playing a critical role in bolstering Moscow’s military capabilities during the ongoing conflict.
In the aftermath of the attack, several pro-Kremlin commentators recognised the incident as a major humiliation for Russia. There were claims that Russian air defence systems failed to intercept the incoming missiles, a failure that has left the Kremlin looking deeply vulnerable as these sophisticated weapons inflicted substantial damage on the facility.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “It is obvious that the launch of these missiles would have been impossible without British specialists.”
In a direct warning to the UK Peskov added: “We are aware of this. We know this very well, and we are, of course, taking it into account.”
He continued, that to stop “such barbaric actions by the Kyiv regime from continuing, a special military operation is being carried out to demilitarise Kyiv and deprive it of the ability to carry out such barbaric strikes.
“This is one of the objectives.”
The Storm Shadow cruise missile, designed specifically for long-range strikes, has been supplied by the United Kingdom to support Ukraine’s defence efforts.
These missiles are engineered to destroy heavily fortified targets, including military bunkers, command centres, and arms manufacturing facilities, making them particularly effective in undermining an opponent’s military infrastructure.
Russian warn analysts said the UK missiles which blew up tech plants has made Putin look “impotent.”
One said on the military Welders Telegram channel: “It was a blow to our image.”
“Everyone has either forgotten about the [Russian] red lines for the use of NATO weapons deep inside Russia, or we must now escalate the situation, remembering them. The goal of the Ukrainian-British provocation is to expose the Russian leadership as impotent.
This incident marks one of the most strategically significant targets hit within Russia since the onset of the conflict, raising concerns about the potential escalation of tensions between Moscow and London. The Kremlin’s assertion that Western-supplied weaponry is now being employed to strike deep within Russian territory could herald a more dangerous phase in the ongoing hostilities, potentially prompting retaliatory measures or a reassessment of military strategies by both sides.
