Qatar Airways has announced a limited flight schedule to and from Doha, effective from Wednesday until March 28, in response to ongoing disruptions in regional air travel caused by the escalating conflict between the U.S. and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
This situation has caused significant complications for air travel in the region, prompting the airline to adjust its operations.
The airline stated that it will continue to operate flights to various cities across six major regions: Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America, South America, and the Asia Pacific.
However, it is important to note that Qatari airspace remains partially closed, which severely limits the number of flights that can be safely conducted.
In a recent statement, Qatar Airways expressed its commitment to providing support for travellers: “Scheduled flight operations are still temporarily suspended due to the closure of Qatari airspace. We are doing our utmost to support you on your journey and to reunite you with your family and loved ones.”
The airline further indicated that full operations will resume only once the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority declares that the airspace is safe for commercial flights.
Since February 28, the situation in the Middle East has been particularly volatile, with air travel heavily disrupted following airstrikes carried out by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks that have affected several Gulf states, many of which serve as crucial aviation hubs for international travel.
In addition to these challenges, the United Arab Emirates is gradually reopening Dubai International Airport. The airport had been temporarily shut down due to a drone-related incident that triggered a fire at a nearby fuel tank, forcing all flights to be suspended. As the situation evolves, travellers throughout the region continue to face significant hurdles and limited travel options until the airspace fully reopens, placing immense stress on those wishing to fly.
