MPs are in the House of Commons on Tuesday debating the second reading of the bill ahead of tonight’s vote.

Sir Keir Starmer’s welfare proposals and this evening the Prime Minister is expecting to face backbench rebellion.

If approved this will see changes to the personal independence payment (Pip) which will cause widespread poverty for thousands of people who are disabled.

The Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall said there has been a number of concessions on cuts, this is a last ditch attempt to get the bill passed.

Labour MP Rachael Maskall called Starmer’s benefit cuts as “Dickensian” in the Commons, which is “from a different era and a different party.”

Maskall said, “These are my constituents, my neighbours, my community, my responsibility, and I cannot cross by on the other side.”

The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has called on Labour MPs to vote down on Starmer’s welfare reforms.

Burnham said the changes to benefits will create “unfairness and divide” among those who are disabled.
