Reform UK MP Srah Pochin has called on the Prime Minister to “ban the burqa” to align with our European neighbours.

Pochin said during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) that Sir Keir Starmer should “follow the lead” of France, Denmark, Belgium and others in the “interest of public safety.”

Pochin told MPs in the House of Commons, “Given the Prime Minister’s desire to strengthen strategic alignment with our European neighbours, will he, in the interests of public safety, follow the lead of France, Denmark, Belgium and others and ban the burqa?”

Starmer said, “Can I welcome her to her place? But I’m not going to follow her down that line.”

Starmer replied to Pochin taking a dig at Nigel Farage, “But now she is here and safely in her place, perhaps she could tell her new party leader that his latest plan to bet £80billion of unfunded tax cuts, with no idea how he’s going to pay for it is Liz Truss all over again?

This left Labour’s Cabinet members and backbenchers laughing, Starmer added, “Although, considering I think she was a Conservative member when Liz Truss was leader, I probably won’t.

Sir James Cleverly the former Home Secretary took aim at Starmer saying his attack on Pochin and the Reform UK leader is “unacceptable” and backed her call to “ban the burqa.”

He wrote on social media, “Unacceptable behaviour from Keir Starmer at PMQs.

“After failing to answer any of Kemi’s questions he basically said to Sarah Pochin that he didn’t like her question, so ‘wasn’t going to engage with it.’

“Refusing to answers MP’s questions isn’t an option as a government minister.”

Labour MP for Chipping Barnet Dan Tomlinson told GB News, he was “surprised” by Pochin’s calls and said that “no one raised that issue with me.”

He added, “I went up to Runcorn to try and help Labour secure a win there. No one raised that issue with me when I spent the day up there. I was personally surprised to see her raise that as an issue.

“My view is that we shouldn’t be telling people how to dress.”
