Russia has started forced “conscription” of Ukrainian nationals in the occupied regions violating “international law,” which is a war crime.

Ukrainian civilians are being forced to fight their own people and are being dragged to the Russian armed forces.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine have strongly protested against the forced conscription of their citizens.

In a statement the ministry said, “Russia’s ‘conscription’ in the occupied territories grossly violates international law, particularly the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which prohibits the occupying power from forcing persons to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces, as well as from exerting pressure and propaganda in favour of voluntary enlistment.”

Kyiv has called on the international community to increase diplomatic and political sanctions against the Russian regime.

The statement added, “We call on international organisations, in particular the UN, OSCE and Council of Europe, to take all necessary measures to protect the rights of enslaved Ukrainian citizens, who are subjected to pressure from the occupation authorities, and to document Russian crimes.”

Vladimir Putin has signed a new decree last month warning Ukrainians who are living in the occupied regions “without legal status” which Moscow claims is part of the Russian Federation are being told to leave their homes.

Ukrainian citizens that live in the Russian occupied regions of Ukraine must “regulate their legal status” by becoming Russian citizens by the 10- September, or they will be kicked out, the Kyiv Independent reported.

Putin’s illegal decree says, “Citizens of Ukraine who are in the Russian Federation and do not have legal grounds for staying (residing) in the Russian Federation are required to leave the Russian Federation on their own or regulate their legal status in the Russian Federation by Sept. 10, 2025.”

This comes Putin wants to Russify the stolen territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

The decree also orders all “foreign citizens and stateless persons” who are living in the Russian occupied regions to have medical checks for drug use and any infectious diseases by 10 June.
